Explosion on Bali boat kills tourists

Sudden blast likely to have been an accident
An explosion on a boat ferrying tourists from Bali to Lombok has killed two foreigners – an Austrian woman and a second female passenger whose nationality is still being verified – and injured 18 others.
Many of the injuries on the boat, which was carrying 30 tourists and four crew, were severe, including one passenger whose feet were blown off.
People from Germany, Britain, France, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Spain were among the passengers. The blast happened minutes after the boat left Padangbai in Karangasem. A lot of smoke had been seen coming from the engine.
The cause of Thursday’s explosion on the Gili Cat 2 fast boat is being investigated but forensics have ruled out foul play. Ferry services between the islands of Indonesia have a notoriously poor safety record.
