Explosions target Thailand tourist towns

Blasts hit Phuket, Hua Hin, Phang Nga, Surat Thani
Explosions taking place across Thailand have hit areas popular with tourists, killing four people and injuring many more. More blasts are continuing to be reported in this coordinated attack.
Four bombs have hit the resort town of Hua Hin over the last 24 hours, including an area of bars frequented by tourists, and several blasts have struck Phuket today.
It is likely that separatist insurgents are behind the bombs, though no group has yet claimed responsibility. If this is true, it is the first time the insurgents have targeted tourists.
The timing is significant, as Friday is a holiday in Thailand marking the queen’s birthday. The Thai authorities are ruling out international terrorism.
The attackers are deliberately targeting tourist areas with these small but numerous explosions. So far the locations include Hua Hin, Phuket, Phang Nga and Surat Thani. Security has been tightened in tourist areas and at airports.
