Extensive SIA, Virgin alliance to go ahead

Commission approves Singapore Airlines’ and Virgin Australia’s plans

In a step towards a deeper alliance with a major global airline, Virgin Australia is now free to go ahead with a wide-ranging alliance with Singapore Airlines. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has approved the two airlines’ alliance proposals.
SIA and Virgin Australia will codeshare on both international and domestic flights early in 2012, offer reciprocal frequent-flyer benefits and lounge access by the end of 2011, coordinate schedules and conduct joint sales, marketing and distribution.
