Fees trend pushes up airline complaints

Airline service complaints rise in first half of 2015
The ever-rising trend of airlines piling on more fees when passengers book tickets is have a negative impact on their popularity. Complaints about airline service increased in the first half of 2015, according to a report on global carriers by the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
The department received 9,542 complaints about US and foreign airlines and other firms in the travel industry from January to June 2015, up 20.3% from the same period last year.
The biggest jump in complaints was about fare levels and information provided during booking, which tripled to 870.
Many airlines are profiting from extra fees for checked baggage and other ancillary services. Revenues from baggage fees in the US were up by almost 10% in the first quarter in 2015, to $864 million.
