Finnair deepens design collaboration

Airbus 330 has “forest dwellers” livery design

The design collaboration between Finnair and Marimekko enters a new phase as the airline brings textiles and tableware designed by the iconic Finnish design and fashion house to its aircraft starting May 15. As an emblem of the cooperation, a Finnair Airbus 330 was unveiled this week with a blue-forest livery based on a print called Metsänväki (“forest dwellers”).
The plane will fly from the carrier’s Helsinki hub to its 13 Asian destinations plus New York, “joining a sister aircraft painted in Marimekko’s Unikko (‘poppy’) print last October”, Finnair says.
From mid-May onwards, the airline’s business-class customers will be served in-flight meals with Marimekko tableware and the design company’s napkins, blankets, pillows and headrest covers will be introduced during the summer. The same prints are featured in economy-class paper cups, headrest covers, fleece blankets and pillows. A selection of Marimekko for Finnair items is also available for purchase.
“We want to bring timeless yet modern Finnish design to the travel experience of Finnair customers”, says Anssi Komulainen, the airline’s senior vice president for customer service.
