Skytrax awards based on independent survey of 18mn people
Finnair has again been named Northern Europe’s Best Airline at the World Airline Awards, repeating the feat for the fifth straight time. The awards, organised by Skytrax and held this year at the Farnborough Air Show, are based on an independent survey of 18 million travellers from more than 160 countries.
The alliance that the Finnish carrier is a member of, oneworld, was named the World’s Best Airline Alliance for the second year running.
“We recognise how tough the competition can be, not only in our home region but in the numerous Asian markets we serve as well,” said Gregory Kaldahl, Finnair’s SVP Resource Management, who was at Farnborough to collect the award.
Finnair has nearly completed a program, begun late last year, to equip its long-haul fleet with seats that convert to fully flat beds in Business Class on nine routes.
Inflight entertainment has also recently been upgraded for passengers in both classes, and Marimekko for Finnair custom tableware, textiles and other amenities are provided in both cabins.
There will also be new lounge services opening in August at Helsinki Airport as well as additions to Finnair’s long-haul fleet in 2015. Finnair remains the only airline in the Nordic countries with a four-star Skytrax rating.
