Passengers departing from London Heathrow can get their baggage picked up, transported and checked in.
Finnair will start to offer a new baggage collection and check-in service at London Heathrow to “enhance its customer experience”, in a trial partnership with airport baggage innovators AirPortr.
The digital ancillary service, which can be added to the ticket price, will enable the airline’s London-based travellers to have their baggage collected from the doorstep of their home or hotel and delivered and checked in to their flight on their behalf.
For Finnair customers who have checked in online, the suitcases and bags are collected at their London location up to a few hours before departure.
This means passengers can head straight through airport security when departing, “enjoying hassle-free boarding and a smoother, more enjoyable journey”, Finnair says – next seeing their baggage at their destination airport.
Easing business travel
Finnair thinks the new service will have particular benefits for business travellers, having their bags collected, taken to the airport and checked-in while allowing them to attend meetings without having to worry about their luggage.
Passengers arriving in London from Helsinki can also have their bags picked up from the airport and delivered direct to their home or hotel.
Finnair will be the third oneworld carrier to make use of the service, as AirPortr already works with British Airways and American Airlines at Heathrow and with British Airways at Gatwick.
