Finnair to cost-save by outsourcing engine work

Move would cut around 280 jobs in engine maintenance

Finnair has announced that it is planning to outsource its engine services. This would save it expenses by cutting around 280 jobs in its engine maintenance division. These activities will be outsourced to SR Technics, based in Switzerland, a company that describes itself as “one of the world’s leading total solutions providers of aircraft-, component-, engine- and technical services for both Boeing and Airbus aircraft”.
The loss-making Finnish airline wants to slash its annual costs by €140 million by 2014. It has already got rid of a catering subsidiary and cut costs at its support functions.
