Finnair to fly thousands of Chinese to Lapland

Airline forges partnership with fast-growing travel platform
Finnair and Alitrip, a fast-growing online travel platform in China, have signed a long-term strategic partnership that is expected to bring around 3,000 Chinese tourists to Finland during the winter months to experience Lapland and the Northern Lights.
The two partners have designed a package to Finland and Lapland that includes one night in Helsinki, two nights in Rovaniemi and two in Ivalo. Experiencing Helsinki and Finnish Lapland will be possible in a single trip.
In conjunction with the new initiative, Alitrip will establish a service centre in Rovaniemi to offer customer service help for travelling customers. With the new partnership, Finnair says it becomes Alitrip’s first European airline partner with a project of this magnitude. Alitrip is a travel platform owned by the Alibaba Group, one of China’s biggest public companies.
“Finland and Lapland have many great things to offer and this new cooperation between Finnair with Alitrip will be a great opportunity for Finland to showcase itself to the Chinese public,” says Juha Järvinen, the airline’s chief commercial officer.
“Thousands of Chinese tourists are expected to visit Finland during the winter months with this new package. Our aim is to grow this long-term cooperation between both companies every year.”
Finnair operates from six cities in Greater China, including year-round services to Beijing, Chongqing, Hong Kong and Shanghai, as well as seasonal services to Guangzhou and Xi’an.
