First airline at Berlin Brandenburg announced

Germania to be troubled airport’s first operating carrier

The first airline to operate from much-delayed Berlin Brandenburg Airport will be Germania Fluggesellschaft, the two companies have announced.

It has already been reported that minor operations could begin at Berlin Brandenburg in the first half of 2014 with around 10 flights and 1,500 passengers a day.

As an initial move, Germania plans to switch operations from Berlin Tegel to Berlin Schoenefeld from November 1 and later to launch flights from the North Pier. Germania currently flies between Berlin and destinations like Beirut, Adana in Turkey and Skopje.

“As an airline based in Berlin, we have a strong interest that the new airport will be open soon,” the airline’s chief commercial officer, Oliver Pawel, said in a statement.
