First security bag checks on trains in EU

Belgium launches spot checks after terror incident
Following an incident a few days ago on a high-speed train from Amsterdam to Paris via Belgium, in which passengers and off-duty US military officers stopped a terror attack, Belgium authorities have ordered spot checks of luggage belonging to passengers on international trains.
The first checks are already taking place. Nathalie Pierard, spokeswoman of the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB), said that bags would be examined at rail stations across the country, not only in the capital.
The checks are being conducted by federal police, in cooperation with the national rail company’s own security service.
