Fjord Line to double Norway-Denmark capacity

New catamaran being built for Kristiansand-Hirtshals route
Norwegian shipping company Fjord Line is investing in a new breed of catamaran with a capacity for 1,200 passengers and 400 cars, almost double today’s capacity, for the line between Kristiansand and Denmark.
“This is a new milestone in Fjord Line’s development,” enthused Rickard Ternblom, Fjord Line’s chief executive. “We’ve been successful on the route in recent years, and are delighted to have ordered the new ship.”
The investment comes after three years of growth on the route and will improve the service in terms of higher capacity, increased comfort, more departures and an extended sailing season compared to today. The new cat is due to enter service from the 2020 season.
“During the development phase, comfort has been important to us,” Ternblom says. “The new catamaran will be the most relaxing and comfortable mode of travel, as well as being the fastest route between Norway and Denmark.”
Cruising at a top speed of 40 knots, it will have a travel time of two hours and 15 minutes. The tax-free shop will be twice as large, and there will be three “food concepts” available. Families with children will also have their own zone.
