Flybe hooked by Ryanair in Aer Lingus deal

Flybe agrees to €100 million to operate Lingus routes

Flybe confirms it has agreed to be paid €100 million by Ryanair to take over some of Aer Lingus’ short-haul business. The deal is part of a package of concessions that Ryanair is submitting to by the European Commission in a final attempt to take over its long-term competitor in the Irish market. Flybe would transfer a number of its aircraft and operate some routes in return for the payment. However, Flybe still has to get board and shareholder approval for the deal.
“The implementation of any agreement would be dependent, inter alia, on the status of Ryanair’s offer for Aer Lingus; the outcome of the Commission’s deliberations on the competition aspects of Ryanair’s bid; and the agreement of a timetable for the implementation of the proposed remedies,” Flybe said in a statement.
