FlyNiki brand will “disappear” says Lauda

Integration of low-cost carrier with Air Berlin continues

The branding of the Austria-based low-cost carrier FlyNiki, a partner of Air Berlin, looks set to be consigned to memory as integration with the German carrier continues. As the former Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda, who founded the airline in 2003, put it: “In my opinion, the brand Niki will disappear within one to two years’ time.”
Vienna-based FlyNiki currently operates as an independent Austrian company with its own management board. But as part of the integration process, it is refocusing on destinations in South-Eastern Europe. It plans to phase out its seven Embraer E-190s this winter and use only Airbus A320s and A321s and also A319s from Air Berlin. Against Lauda’s wishes, FlyNiki became an affiliate member of oneworld in March.
