Gang rapes Danish woman, 51, in India

Six men attack lost Danish tourist in New Delhi

A 51-year-old Danish woman was gang raped by six men in New Delhi late last night.

A spokesperson at Denmark’s foreign ministry confirmed the attack to the news service DR Nyheder. The victim left for Copenhagen this morning, the Times of India reports, though this has not been confirmed by other media.

“The embassy in New Delhi has provided the best possible consular assistance to the woman,” the spokesperson said.

The rape reportedly occurred after the gang threatened the woman with a knife. The woman had got lost after visiting a museum.

A series of highly publicised rapes in India have revealed to the world the country’s history of violence and harassment against women. Guidelines issued by the Danish ministry say that female tourists travelling to India should exercise “considerable caution”.
