Alliance announces date for Indonesian carrier to join
The global alliance SkyTeam will accept Garuda Indonesia as its 20th member on March 5 next year, it has been announced. Indonesia’s national airline will be the alliance’s second member from Southeast Asia.
Garuda operates nonstop flights from Jakarta to six SkyTeam hubs, namely Seoul, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Amsterdam.
SkyTeam confirmed that Garuda was on target to meet all the membership criteria required by the alliance, including the implementation of a new IT platform and customer-focused initiatives.
Joining SkyTeam has been a long-term development strategy for Garuda Indonesia, as planned in its strategic expansion program Quantum Leap 2011-2015. The airline has been upgrading its service and forging cooperation with SkyTeam member airlines with this objective in mind.
