German tourist drowns in river in Norway

Elderly man loses his footing in fishing accident

A German tourist aged 83 was swept under the surface of a fast-flowing river in western Norway this week. He was later found dead, downriver at a depth of seven metres. He had been wading close to the edge of the River Storelva when he suddenly went under, apparently losing his footing.
The pensioner’s wife, who had been standing nearby, alerted rescue services and a helicopter, ambulance, divers and police quickly arrived at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
