Germany, France put “brake” on travel from Turkey

New clause contradicts visa-free travel to EU
Even as the EU negotiates a deal for Turkish citizens to travel to Europe without visas, Germany and France have come up with a plan that would give them the power to slam an “emergency brake” on visa-free travel if necessary.
The “mechanism to suspend visa-free travel” proposal is dated April 27, with Berlin and Paris arguing: “Current migration and refugee trends make it necessary to have an efficient mechanism in place to suspend visa liberalization.”
Visa liberalisation is one of the carrots the EU is dangling to get Turkey to accept a controversial deal to take back refugees who have travelled to Europe.
But there are other countries also negotiating visa-free travel to the EU, such as Georgia, Ukraine and Peru.
