Gotland to host crime and Nordic noir festival

Festival aims to attract at least 2,000 lovers of crime fiction
Lovers of crime fiction and Nordic noir will be flocking to the Swedish island of Gotland this summer for a new international festival. Organiser Carina Nunstedt tells The Local that the Crimetime Gotland crime festival on August 13 to 16 will be “an exciting mixing place for writers and fans of thrillers and crime literature”.
More than 40 writers will be there and the festival will host almost 100 seminars, including many in English. Events will be taking place, some of them for children. The festival will also showcase Nordic Noir movies and visitors will get the chance to take part in improvised thriller literature.
“People who buy tickets will have the chance to do everything from learning how their favourite books were written, to meeting and chatting to authors and even taking part in writing workshops themselves,” says Nunstedt, who wants to attract at least 2,000 people from Sweden, the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal and Spain.
There is a similar festival in the Swedish town of Sundsvall, but Crimetime Gotland “will definitely be the biggest international event of its kind so far”. Writers visiting include Roger Hobbs from the US, British writers like Belinda Bauer, Alex Marwood and “another really famous name from the UK that will be announced later this week”, Anne Holt, Jussi Adler-Olsen, Lars Kepler and Jens Lapidus. Jo Nesbo “is on our list for next year,” Nunstedt says.
