“Great public transport rides” include Nordic experience

After dinner, retire to the piano bar and enjoy the Swedish landscape
Sweden’s Blue Train, which travels at a leisurely pace between Stockholm and Gothenburg, is listed among the world’s “10 great public transport rides” by the influential newspaper The Guardian.
“Trust the design-conscious Swedes to come up with an affordable, stylish alternative to the boring old commute,” it says. “The Blue Train, which began operating between Gothenburg and Stockholm in 2010, is made up of 1960s carriages, with a wood-panelled interior, white curtains and art deco-inspired lampshades that lend a refined atmosphere.”
The train takes four hours to complete the trip (five times a week), 45 minutes longer than other trains on the line, “so there is plenty of time for a leisurely sit-down meal, which is served on tables covered in white linen and brightened with fresh flowers.”
Dishes on the set menu are made by chefs in the on-board kitchen and paired with a choice of wines. After dinner you can retire to the piano bar with a glass of champagne and enjoy the passing Swedish landscape.
Other “great public transport rides” in the list include New York’s Staten Island ferry, Hong Kong’s elevators, communal taxis in Dakar, Senegal, and the Funicular de Vallvidrera in Barcelona.
