Helsinki named best airport in northern Europe

Skytrax survey asks more than 13 million passengers
Passengers have chosen Helsinki Airport as the best airport in northern Europe, based on rating agency Skytrax’s latest international survey of more than 13 million respondents worldwide.
“Helsinki Airport has already been in the elite class of airports for almost 20 years. The Skytrax award is proof of the high level of the airport’s operations and services,” said Ville Haapasaari, Helsinki-Vantaa’s airport director.
He added that it is the operator Finavia’s objective that Helsinki’s position among Europe’s most popular transfer hubs in will continue to strengthen as the airport prepares to serve 20 million passengers a year by 2020. A €900 million development program currently underway aims to preserve the airport’s strengths.
Independent, non-profit organisation Skytrax quizzed passengers about the functionality and quality of airport services in almost 40 indicators, from check-in to the departure gate, between last June and February. Evaluated fields included security control, connecting flights, passport control and shopping.
The survey featured 550 airports around the world. Singapore Changi was named the world’s best airport and Munich the best in Europe.
