Lucky Air to launch flights from Kunming via Chengdu
Helsinki Airport’s role as a hub between Europe and Asia is strengthening further as China’s Lucky Air launches flights to Finland in January – the first Chinese airline in Finland.
It will bring two major cities in China within reach of passengers travelling from and via Helsinki. Lucky Air, part of the Chinese HNA Group, will fly a triangular route, from Kunming to Chengdu, then to Helsinki and the same route back.
Finnish airport operator Finavia has invested heavily in serving Chinese passengers and improving the customer experience at Helsinki Airport, something that appears to be paying off.
“Having the first Chinese airline in Finland supports our goal to develop Helsinki Airport as an important air traffic hub between Europe and Asia,” says Joni Sundelin, senior vice president at Finavia.
“Measured by the number of flight connections, Helsinki Airport is number one in northern Europe and, according to passenger surveys, one of the best airports in the world.”
The route is expected to open on January 17, 2018, and will be flown by wide-bodied A330 aircraft twice a week. Chengdu and Kunming are both Chinese metropolises, and once the route is opened people living in these cities will have good connections to Finland and the rest of Europe via Helsinki.
