Horse-drawn cabs may return to Oslo

But lots of applications must be accepted first
A riding centre has applied to operate a horse-drawn carriage service in Oslo for the first time in 66 years. Horse-drawn cabs were last seen in the city in 1951.
“Oslo is going to be traffic-free, so we think something should be done about the city’s appearance. It could look very pleasant with living animals and horses,” Lene Kragh of the Alna Riding Centre told the broadcaster NRK.
A similar initiative by Kragh failed in 2008, but now she hopes the reduction in traffic in the city will encourage support for the plan.
She has applied to both the city municipality and the Norwegian Environment Agency for funding and permission to launch the service.
But a number of practical questions will have to be resolved first, such as whether a holding area will be needed. Permission from the police may also be required.
