Accor and Hilton announce new signings in Myanmar
Accor has announced three new signings in Myanmar, joining other international hotel companies like Hilton Worldwide and Best Western International in plans to open properties in the fast-emerging country. Accor’s new-build hotels include a 168-room MGallery in Nay Pyi Taw, the 280-room Novotel Mandalay Mingalar and the 366-room Novotel Yangon Max, the latter of which is due to open by the end of 2013.
Best Western is discussing franchising and ownership options in places such as Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Kalaw and Bagan with potential investors.
“After sanctions were lifted and after Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama visited, that gave us confidence in the market,” a Best Western representative says. “There are tremendous opportunities here and a lot of foreign direct investment.”
Hilton Worldwide signed an agreement last week with LP Holding to manage the 300-room Hilton Yangon, the brand’s first property in the country, scheduled to open in 2014.
