Hotel to build 3D-printed conference centre

Aim is to create a structure with no environmental impact
A hotel is planning to build a 3D-printed conference facility next year. The project could take just 10 days and create a structure that has no environmental impact.
Hotel De Slaapfabriek in Teuge, the Netherlands, says it will be Europe’s first zero-footprint 3D printed building, bringing the advantages of the new technology to the travel and hospitality industries.
3D printing has many advantages, but energy efficiency is not often mentioned. Yet it produces far fewer carbon emissions than many other manufacturing options.
Hotel De Slaapfabriek says the conference location will provide an inspiring and modern environment. If successful, it could pave the way for a new environmentally-friendly type of construction.
The hotel has 12 “unique” rooms available to clients and is a destination for honeymoons and business trips. Since opening its doors in 2009, De Slaapfabriek has won numerous awards and boasts a Booking.com appreciation score of 9.3.
The only thing that’s missing is a conference location, so founders Arvid and Marjo Prigge developed an ambitious plan to construct a completely new, environmentally-friendly venue. This put them on the path to 3D printing and the concept for the structure was worked out during the Dutch Construction Hackathon in May 2016.
The only obstacle is a financial one, with building costs expected to reach €375,000. So the hotel has opened a crowdfunding opportunity through NLInvesteert, allowing private investors to provide €1,000 eight-year loans with 8% interest.
