Hotels rethink room design to include work and play

New hospitality brand Zoku combines business and leisure
Hotels are starting to include elements of both work and play in the room design, to satisfy guests’ demands. While big hospitality brands are adding public co-working spaces and high-tech rooms, new brands, like Zoku, are making the guest rooms “a home-office hybrid”.
Zoku recently released details of this concept, where rooms are adapted to each guest’s needs. Instead making the bed the central element, Zoku Loft places a four-person table at the centre, which can be used for work, meals or entertaining.
Each space also has a kitchen, storage area and desk with office supplies. The bed is hidden away in a “loft”. They are designed for guests who need somewhere to stay for weeks or months rather than days.
“The advance of technology has changed personal and professional lifestyles,” says Hans Meyer, Zoku’s co-founder and managing director. “Boundaries between work and leisure are fading, and blurring borders have made people more mobile than ever.”
