Icelandair heads to new city in Canada

First flight to Edmonton takes place today

Icelandair is heading to Edmonton in Canada, with up to four weekly flights, and the first flight takes place today. Edmonton is the airline’s third Canadian destination.

Originally intended as a seasonal link, the route was quickly upgraded to a year-round service since the response to the opening was so positive, the airline said.

Icelandair says that its schedule in 2014 is “on the whole the largest and most ambitious in its history” with expected passenger numbers at 2.6 million compared to almost 2.3 million last year. It has grown considerably over the past five years, meaning that the 2014 timetable is twice as large as it was in 2009.
