Icelandair to open new luxury hotel in Reykjavik

Strategy is to get more high-end tourists to visit Iceland

Icelandair Hotels, a subsidiary of Icelandair Group, says it will open a new luxury hotel in the centre of Reykjavik at the beginning of 2016. The property, to have 70 rooms, will be located at Hafnarstraeti 17-19 and will be built from scratch.

The group says that the main advantages of the hotel will be its central location and the ability to design, from the beginning, the facilities in accordance with the needs of the hotel.

Alongside the Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Kultura, at Hverfisgata, and the enlargement of Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Marina, at Reykjavik harbour, the development is in line with the company’s strategy to get more high-end tourists to visit Iceland – and by that improve profitability for the company and the tourism industry in Iceland overall.

The project will be implemented in cooperation with Sudurhus, the owner of the site, which will be in charge of the construction. Icelandair Hotels will lease the hotel facility for 20 years.
