Icelandair ups capacity on international routes

Airline to increase capacity internationally by 15% next year

The international flight schedule for Icelandair Group in 2013 will be the biggest in the company’s history, 15% more extensive than this year’s flights. Three new destinations will be added to the route network – Anchorage in Alaska, St Petersburg in Russia, Zurich in Switzerland – and frequencies to cities in the United States and Europe will be increased. Icelandair aims to carry close to 2.3 million passengers in 2013, compared to an estimated 2 million in 2012. A total of 18 Boeing 757 aircraft will be used to serve the route network, two more than in the current year.
If the travel industry faces adverse changes in the tax environment next year, Icelandair Group says, the airline will contemplate shifting its focus by carrying a lower number of tourists to Iceland than in the current plans and instead carry a higher number of passengers between Europe and North America.
