IHG rolls out free Wi-Fi – for loyalty members

Free internet more important for guests than room service

InterContinental Hotels Group today announced that it would provide free internet at all its properties worldwide – for its 70 million loyalty program members. The hotel giant explains that in a global online survey it conducted, nearly half of respondents would choose not to stay in a hotel that charged for internet.
IHG says it is “the first and only hotel group to offer free internet in all hotels to all loyalty program members, globally – whether they stay the night or come in for a coffee or an impromptu meeting.” It will start from this coming July for Elite members and extend to all members during 2014. Whether the service would ever be extended to all guests was not stated.
