India tourism turns to Himalayas for off season

Wide range of special adventure programs created

With the aim of boosting off-season traffic and promoting the Himalayas mountain range, India’s Ministry of Tourism has launched a new campaign to attract foreigners during the lean summer season.

The campaign, called 777 Days of Incredible Indian Himalayas focuses on the six Himalayan states – Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh – to turn India into a 365-day destination.

The ministry collaborated with the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India to design 777 days’ worth of special adventure programs including a Himalayan run, river rafting, trekking and cycling events.

Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi: “The campaign has been designed to spread awareness around the globe that 73% of the Himalayan range lies in India. The Indian Himalayas are a complete destination that offers adventure, biodiversity hotspots, beautiful lakes, wellness and much more for travellers.”

Two promotional films, a book on safe travel in the Himalayas, a calendar of events and a website for the campaign have all been unveiled.
