Islamists say Tunisia welcomes tourists

“The Ennahda party will never ban alcohol for tourists”

The Islamist Ennahda party, which emerged from the recent elections in Tunisia with the most votes, promises that the country will not place restrictions on tourists. The Tunisian National Tourist Office has stressed that it is vital to communicate this message to all holidaymakers and that there is no intention, for example, to ban alcohol. Tourists are free to go on excursions or tours around the country, and Tunisia “must be for everybody”, a spokesman stressed.
“The Ennahda party will never ban alcohol for tourists or put any pressure on them to stop wearing bikinis on the beach and sunbathing, for example,” he added.
