Italy suffers national transport strike

General strike likely to paralyse country today

A national transportation strike is likely to cause major disruptions throughout Italy today. Air traffic controllers will be on strike between 13:00 and 17:00, bringing delays and cancellations to flights to and from Italy.

Personnel at Italian airports are on strike from 10:00 until 18:00, while Alitalia personnel will be on strike from 12:00 until 16:00.

Trains are not an alternative means of travel, as rail workers will be on strike nationwide from 09:00 until 17:00. Local public transit services will also be impacted.

Italy’s main trade unions are calling on members to strike against a government proposal to change the employment law to make it easier for companies to hire and fire employees.

Travellers are advised to confirm all travel reservations and allow for additional time to reach their destinations.
