Greece and Denmark gain charter popularity in summer
Greece has reinforced its position as the Finns’ most popular holiday destination in charter traffic, according to Finavia passenger statistics. Regarding individual destinations, especially Iraklion in Greece and Billund in Denmark have become more popular, variations explained by changes in destinations offered by travel agencies and airlines. In total, the flight travel volume decreased slightly compared to the same period last year.
The most popular charter destinations from Finland in June and July were Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and Spain. Charter flights flew a total of 140,584 people there, 4% more than last year. However, only 21,192 passengers took charter flights from Finland to Spain, 41% less than in the same months in 2011. The change is explained by the simultaneous growth and decline in route traffic to certain destinations.
Denmark was the seventh most popular charter destination from Finland, thanks to the rising fame of Legoland, making Billund as popular a charter destination as Kos in Greece.
