Kuoni lists 2017 travel trends

Greece is hot, as are experiential travel and “touring”
Experiential travel is growing in popularity in the luxury holiday market this year, Kuoni’s annual trends report says, and demand for Greece and more exotic destinations is also on the rise.
The luxury specialist has seen a 30% increase in bookings for Greece so far this year, echoing news of strong sales for the country at other operators. There, luxury resorts on islands like Santorini and Cephalonia are leading the way together with a rise in the villa market and smaller boutique hotels.
Kuoni is also seeing an upturn for Mauritius, Costa Rica, Malaysia with Borneo, Canada and South Africa. But the islands of the Maldives remain Kuoni’s biggest seller.
There is also a surge in “touring”, Kuoni says, giving the example a new itinerary in South Korea including archery, a ride on a bullet train, seeing the UNESCO-protected Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and experiencing a non-verbal comedy show with magic and acrobatics.
The South Korea tour can be combined with Kuoni’s China Highlights or Japan Highlights tours.
“It’s a combination of soft adventure and authenticity,” said managing director Derek Jones about the touring and experiential trends. “People are looking for something to take them out of the ordinary, not just a fly-and-flop holiday. Increasingly, people are looking for something more authentic, not just box-ticking.”
