Lufthansa may merge Eurowings, Brussels Airlines

Expanding low-cost carrier is the priority for Lufthansa
Low-cost carrier Eurowings is the priority for Lufthansa as it decides whether to merge it with its partly-owned subsidiary Brussels Airlines. Lufthansa says it will decide by the end of the summer whether to launch a full Brussels Airlines takeover and proceed with folding it into Eurowings.
Lufthansa is exploring various acquisitions, including possible takeovers of SAS and German charter carrier Condor. Ultimately its aim is to establish Eurowings as a solid rival to Ryanair and easyJet.
Brussels Airlines is attractive because of its connections to Africa, where Lufthansa does not offer many flights, as well as its Brussels hub. The German airline currently owns 45% of Brussels Airlines owner SN Airholding.
