Purchase is for 108 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing
The purchase of 108 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing has been approved by Lufthansa’s supervisory board. The order has a list price of €9 billion and includes two more Airbus A380s, 30 A320ceos and six Boeing 777-300ERs. The board has also given permission to conclude negotiations on 70 Airbus A320/321neos.
The announcement comes on the same day Airbus delivered its 100th A380, presented to Malaysia Airlines in Toulouse. Lufthansa currently has 10 A380s in operation and 14 more on order.
However, Lufthansa cautioned that a tough economic outlook and restructuring costs would limit its operating profit growth in 2013 and 2014. Its restructuring program, SCORE, is designed to boost operating profit to €2.3 billion in 2015, up from €524 million in 2012 – a full-year result that was presented yesterday.
