Lufthansa strike set for Monday, Tuesday

Union tells pilots to stop flying from noon Dec 1

The German union VC has announced it is telling pilots to strike at Lufthansa on December 1 and 2. Talks over retirement benefits have broken down again.

The strike, to hit short- and medium-haul flights throughout Germany, will last from noon on Monday until 23:59 on Tuesday, local time. Pilots on long-haul flights and Lufthansa Cargo flights will strike on Tuesday, from 03:00 to 23:59. Germanwings flights are not affected.

The strike is latest in an ongoing dispute over changes the airline wants to make to an early retirement scheme for pilots, which Lufthansa argues is outdated. The airline says the strike is disproportionate and is calling for an immediate return to the negotiating table. It has made concessions in recent talks, it says, including a 5% pay rise.
