Lufthansa launches Austin, plus Munich to Bangkok

The German giant looks both east and west with new direct connections to the USA and Thailand for summer 2019.

Lufthansa says it is further expanding its long-haul route network next summer. From the start of May, the airline will fly its first connections from Frankfurt to Austin in the USA, while a new Munich-Bangkok route launches at the beginning of June.

Starting on May 3, Austin is Lufthansa’s third destination in Texas – alongside Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston – and will be operated with an Airbus A330-300 aircraft in service five times a week.

Apart from Tuesdays and Thursdays, LH 468 will leave the Lufthansa hub in Frankfurt in the morning and reach Austin in the afternoon local time, after a travel time of around ten hours.

The return flight departs Texas in the late afternoon and lands at Frankfurt in the morning of the following day.

On board, “passengers can expect the usual high level of Lufthansa comfort”, the airline says, with 255 seats in economy, premium economy and business class. Tickets to Austin and back can already be booked for introductory fares from €499.

Tickets have also just gone on sale for a new Lufthansa connection between Munich and Bangkok – a part of the airline’s further expansion of its Bavarian hub into a hub for flights to and from Asia.

LH 792’s first flight ever will take place on June 1 on one of the airline’s new Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which will take off daily from Munich to Thailand in the afternoon. A return flight to Bangkok can be booked with a price starting from €640.
