Sofitel and Pierre hotels in New York act following alleged assaults
Two luxury hotels in New York have said that housekeepers will carry “panic buttons” with them to help prevent sexual assaults. The hotels are the Sofitel, where the former head of the IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn allegedly assaulted one of the maids last month, and the Pierre, where the former chairman of a major Egyptian bank is alleged to have sexually assaulted a housekeeper last week.
Housekeepers at the two upscale properties will carry wireless devices to alert the hotel’s managers if they are attacked. The New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council union is demanding that such devices are available to staff at 150 properties next year.
