Hyatt and Marriott look to Europe, the US and China
Both Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Marriott International are pushing ahead with ambitious growth plans, particularly in Europe, the US and China. For Hyatt, there are a number of cities in the US where the company already has hotels but wants more representation, such as Miami, Los Angeles and New York. In Europe, Hyatt says that it has strong brand representation in some key gateway cities, but none in others. The company has just bought 19 former LodgeWorks properties and is due to close another major property deal by the end of the year.
Marriott, meanwhile, is looking specifically at an ambitious pipeline in Europe. It says it is around halfway to achieving a goal of doubling its European portfolio from 40,000 to 80,000 rooms by 2015.
