oneworld network expands presence in Asia
Malaysia Airlines has officially become part of the oneworld alliance. Its entry adds 16 destinations and one country, Brunei, to the alliance’s route map. The addition of the airline’s Kuala Lumpur hub also gives the alliance an important connecting point in Southeast Asia. Previously, oneworld’s only other hub in the immediate region was at Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific’s base.
Malaysia Airlines’ chief executive, Jauhari Yahya, said that his airline’s inclusion would “strengthen the alliance’s connectivity between many key business cities in Asia and other parts of the world.”
Next, Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan airlines are on track to join oneworld, with full membership expected within the next couple of years.
