Malaysia Airlines names new CEO

Peter Bellew named as new chief executive
Malaysia Airlines has named Peter Bellew, its chief operating officer since last September and a former executive at Ryanair, as its new chief executive, replacing Christoph Mueller who resigned earlier this year. Bellew is taking on the role from today, July 1.
Bellew was Ryanair’s director of flight operations before joining the Malaysian carrier, which has been struggling since two aviation catastrophes in 2014.
“Bellew has been integral to the ongoing execution of the turnaround plan for Malaysia Airlines”, the airline’s only shareholder, state fund Khazanah, said in a statement.
The fund also said that the turnaround plan was on track, with “encouraging signs of progress thus far”.
Mueller will step down from the board with immediate effect. He announced his resignation in April, for personal reasons.
