Malaysia to launch new low-cost airline

PM: Malindo Airways will begin flights from May 2013

No less an official than that prime minister of Malaysia has announced that a new low-cost airline known as Malindo Airways will begin flights from May 2013. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the carrier is a collaboration between Malaysia’s National Aerospace and Defence Industries Sdn Bhd and Indonesia’s PT Lion Group. The name of the airline is a mix of the names of the two countries. It will be based at KLIA 2, the new Kuala Lumpur airport due to open in April, which is being constructed to replace a temporary low-cost carrier terminal.
“A wide network of flights will connect various cities and towns regionally, opening new destinations for travellers from within the Nusantara and beyond,” the prime minister said at the signing ceremony between the two companies to establish the airline.
