Marketing and MICE ideas for hotels and resorts

Hospitality-focused communications expert presents ideas

Larry Mogelonsky, founder of hospitality-focused communications agency LMA Communications Inc., looks at activities that can help hoteliers improve revenues and market position. Firstly, he advises, hoteliers can use special events throughout the year that involve their local constituencies. Such a program can include, for example, guest speaker events with local authors, tea tastings or even movie screenings where the proceeds go to local charities. Hotels, especially those with entertainment or sports amenities, can also attract more business guests and raise their profiles by creating new events together with nearby conference centres.
Hotels can add an extra dimension to regular already-established events that are held nearby. For example, one London hotel located close to one of the world’s biggest dog shows holds an onsite spa for dogs and provides a “doggie concierge”. Hotels and resorts should not forget to include their brand in everything they are involved in.
One more idea is to extend FIT guests to extended stays, building facilities such as full kitchen, living area and washing machine into suites.
