Mitsubishi delays MRJ program again

First flight now due for second quarter of 2015

A second major delay has been announced by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp to its MRJ regional jet program. Its first flight has now been postponed by more than a year.

The new schedule pushes the first flight back to the second quarter of 2015. The 70- to 90-seat regional jet was originally scheduled to fly in the fourth quarter of 2013.

First delivery is now not expected until the second quarter of 2017. All Nippon Airways is the launch customer, with 15 MRJs on firm order plus 10 options.

The delay is due to aircraft systems and component design as well as certification, the company says.
