Moxy Hotels expands further in Norway

The hotel giant has announced a third property in the country, and this one is to be located in the far north.

Marriott International’s next-gen travel brand Moxy Hotels is opening a new hotel in Tromsø, which is becoming known as the go-to city in Norway to experience the Northern Lights. The new property and its 200 rooms are expected to open in late 2021.

“We are eager to open a unique hotel brand in Norway that differs from the market’s saturation of local brands,” said Per Denker Sørensen, CEO of hotel operator Core Hospitality, which is collaborating with Marriott.

“The natural beauty of Tromsø is evident, so we have decided to design the reception and common areas on the top floor. This allows all our guests to enjoy the wonderful view from the 11th floor while they have a meal and cocktails from the bar.”

Moxy Hotels was developed, he added, for travellers looking for an affordable hotel stay without compromising on style.

“We cater to so-called ‘fun hunters’ and it will have music and entertainment that is as much for international guests as for the locals,” he said.

Northernmost hotel
This will be the third Moxy to open in Norway – and the northernmost Marriott property. Marriott has already opened one, Moxy Oslo X, and another one is being developed in Bergen, which will also be operated by Core Hospitality.

Marriott describes Moxy as its new millennial-focused brand, “a boutique-hotel concept for the next-gen traveller”, a “fresh and innovative brand combining stylish design and approachable service at an affordable price point”.
