Napoleon is “killer brand” for theme park

Plan to build new theme park dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte

Plans are underway to build a new theme park dedicated to France’s most famous leader, Napoleon Bonaparte. In an apparent attempt to rival Disneyland Paris, the future tourist attraction will be located in Montereau, 90 kilometres south-east of the French capital. But it won’t be open for a while yet; construction is not due to begin until February 2014.
The plan has backing from the French government, tourism officials and the Bonaparte family. Features could include reconstructions of famous sites from the leader’s life, such as the Pyramids and the Gates of Moscow. But it won’t all be history lessons. Besides battle re-enactments there will be more typical theme-park rides like rollercoasters.
“For Chinese tourists, Napoleon is a killer brand”, Christian Mantei, head of Atout France, says.
“In the 21st century, people need a new medium for history – and that medium is the theme park,” declares Charles Napoleon, a descendant of the emperor’s younger brother Jerome.
