New chief executive for Destination Sigtuna

Anna Lakmaker, who has a background promoting cities and museums in the vicinity of Stockholm, will start in October.

The board of the destination management company Sigtuna AB has appointed Anna Lakmaker as its new chief executive.

Anna Lakmaker, who has a background in promoting cities and museums in the vicinity of Stockholm, will take on her new role on October 8.

Lakmaker has extensive experience in travel and tourism marketing, destination development, site promotion and hosting development, the company says.

“I’ve long been passionate about Sigtuna and its tourism industry. I am grateful for the trust and look forward to working with the employees, the industry, the residents and the municipality to drive the work and development of our fantastic destination further,” she says.

New strategy
The board says its ambition is to consolidate the position of Sigtuna, a picturesque lakeside town less than 30 kilometres northwest of Stockholm, as Sweden’s fourth largest hotel destination with about 900,000 overnight stays, and to continue to develop tourism as part of a strong business community in Sigtuna municipality.

To enable this, a strategy work has been launched to strengthen Destination Sigtuna’s work and contribute to an even more successful business.

“Destination Sigtuna plays an important role in positioning, developing and coordinating communication around the site and the visitor destination of Sigtuna,” says Björn Jonzon, chairman of the board of Destination Sigtuna.

“We are proud of what the company, together with the visitor industry, has achieved for many years, not least the development of Sigtuna as a sustainable destination. With Anna Lakmaker’s background and experience, we are convinced that we have a competent addition who can further develop the company in a clear and professional way.”

Destination Sigtuna AB was established in 1992 and is owned 46% by Sigtuna municipality and 54% by local private entrepreneurs.
