Airline appoints new CFO with “solid financial experience”

SAS says it is intensifying its “focus on key strategic ventures” with the appointment of a financial services and telecoms insider as its new chief financial officer.

Torbjørn Wist, a Norwegian citizen with “extensive knowledge and international experience from the financial services industry and telecoms industry, holding multiple financial leadership positions in the US, UK and Norway” will be the company’s new executive vice president and CFO.

Göran Jansson is leaving the post and will assume overall responsibility for group strategy, SAS growth initiatives, aircraft fleet and strategic sourcing.

Most recently, Wist has served as group treasurer for Telenor ASA since 2012. He will take office after SAS’ annual general shareholders meeting in March 2018. Jansson will continue in his current position until then.

In addition to his responsibilities as SAS CFO, Wist will also function as the airline’s senior representative and spokesperson in Norway.

New structure
The company says that “this new structure will provide a platform for SAS to further strengthen the relationship with our customer base and secure a fleet development that meets the evolving demand for business and leisure travel among Scandinavia’s frequent travellers. In this new capacity, Göran will continue as deputy president and member of SAS Group Management”.

SAS CEO Rickard Gustafson commends Wist on his “solid financial experience coupled with his experience from the fast-moving telecoms industry”, which makes him “a valuable addition to SAS Group Management and our striving to further strengthen SAS in a highly competitive market”.
